More than just skiing...
Jetbikes, Quadbikes and Go-Karting on ice
This year is a particularly exciting one for winter holiday guests in Livigno. The list of fun activities to be enjoyed on and off the snow has grown yet again, with more things to do then ever before. The main activity is skiing, yet with ski group lessons lasting two hours daily (in skiing 1 hour is 55 minutes), there is always enough time to do the activities which appeal to you most.
Jetbikes, Quad bikes and Go-Karting
Top of the list and up to now still the most favourite non-skiing activity for YTC clients is the jet biking experience. Whether it is on the frozen lake or the custom-made track these jet skis on snow are a huge hit with people of all ages... speed, snow and lots of fun! Also available are quad bikes on snow and go-karting on the ice, which seem to supply that extra buzz of adrenaline which so many winter holidaymakers seek.
Tyre Sliding and Night Skiing
If you want to fly across the snowy slopes without an engine and minus your skis then you really must try the tyre-sliding which has proved very popular and lots of fun - it’s simple, you just sit in a large inflated ‘tyre-tube’ and slide down the twisting circuit specially laid out at the bottom of the slopes. It’s a guaranteed way to make everyone laugh whether you are six or sixty! Each Thursday night there is night skiing on a selected piste, which is floodlit until 10pm for skiers and snow boarders to experience something a little different on the snow.
Snowboarding
Snow boarders have their own fun park in Livigno in addition to the regular pistes. This is a competition level snow park with half pipes, rails, jumps and a mega sound system - Enjoy.
Horse riding and Horse drawn carriage rides
Horse lovers are well catered for in Livigno where riders of every ability can spend time enjoying the special ambiance of the snowy slopes from horseback. Under the supervision of expert local guides you can follow the trails through the trees of the lower slopes of the valley and baste in the enchantment of the clear, crisp mountain air. For those who want a more sedate equine experience in Livigno then the horse drawn carriage is the choice for you - this is an ideal tranquil activity for everyone.
Sledging
Another favourite (perhaps just as popular as jetbikes) is sledging. Once a week at 5pm a slope is dedicated to sledging. The chair-lift will be open for sledgers only, who ride to the top of the piste in the chair-lift with the sledge in hand, and then sledge down the whole piste. This is without doubt the activity which appeals to the broadest age range and it is not unusual to find three generations of a family all enjoying the sledging experience together.
Aquagranda Wellness Park
Also new this year is Aquagranda, one of Europe’s largest indoor swimming pool, which is located close to the lake. Its décor is extremely modern and it has many facilities, so take along your swim wear for the perfect way to gently ease away the day’s skiing exertions.
Ice- Skating
At the centre of the village (near the church) you can have some fun on the floodlit ice-skating rink every evening until 10pm - the perfect way to spend an hour or so under the starlit, crisp winter sky.
Larix Park
Larix Park situated on the Mottolino side of Livigno is another new activity. This is your chance to quite literally go for a walk in the trees.
A challenging but exceptionally fun series of interlinked rope and timber walkways offers the opportunity to see the trees from a totally new perspective, several metres above the ground. Your safety is well cared for with harnesses and safety equipment of the highest standard - all you need is the spirit of adventure! (Larix park is not recommended in very cold weather).
Days out of Livigno
Especially attractive to non-skiers are two day trips out of Livigno, visiting St Moritz in Switzerland and Bormio in Italy. At Bormio ensure to spend some time at the Bagni Vecchi, the natural thermal baths, dating back to Roman times, with natural hot water flowing out of the mountains at 30 degrees.
Latteria
The Latteria (dairy) in Livigno is worth a visit. By means of audio equipment you can hear the commentary, while seeing how and where the delicious cheese, milk, butter and cream, for which Livigno is famed, is made - and of course get to taste it.
Gourmet
After all these daytime activities, a healthy appetite would definitely be worked up. For that special night out, YTC can recommend a large number of places to dine out, be it pizza, pasta, local specialities, meat or fish, or overall fine dining. A list of restaurants, and discounts offered by some of these establishments, will be given to our clients.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Livigno is whatever you want it to be, there are lots of guest bars and pubs which are usually pumping until about 2am, Kuhstall, Helvetia pub, Micky’s and Marcos to mention some of the most popular and if you have enough energy left over then a cheap cab ride to the edge of the village takes you to Kokodi where you can dance the rest of the night away.
Don’t forget that the drinks are not just duty free, they also come in huge measures so pace yourself!
Also for kids...
Children enjoy other non-skiing activities too, like sledging, the building of snowmen, snowball fights and tyre sliding. Children older than seven years of age can ride pillion on jet-bikes driven by adults or go horse-riding along the Livigno stream.
All the above non-skiing activities can be booked with your YTC representative in Livigno, who will guide you accordingly. This is another exclusive service!
